A Receptive Full Moon vs. a Creative Sun: Yin & Yang Unite
Integrating Polarities for November 5-10. The Sun is in Human Design Gate 1, opposite the Earth (& Full Moon) in Gate 2!
Welcome to Integrating Polarities, a series that focuses on practicing the art of wholeness - weaving opposites, moving beyond the binary, and bridging the divide.
Every 5–6 days, as the Sun enters a new gate in the Human Design Mandala, I’ll share a timely transmission you can read like an integrative horoscope for the days ahead.
To learn more about the background of this project, read the first transmission.
This Week’s Transits:
The 🌞 is in the Gate of Creativity/Self-Expression (1)
The 🌍 is in the Gate of Receptivity (2)
Wednesday, November 5- Sunday, November 10
1 and 2. The foundations of the 64 gates of the I’Ching and Human Design Mandala sit across from each other in the Wheel of the Year.
1 is pure yang: creativity, self-expression, freshness. 2 is pure yin: receptivity, unity, allowing. This week, it’s Heaven over Heaven vs. Earth over Earth. The Sun shines from the heavens with an evolved, Scorpionic creative power (the kind that can only arise once you’ve descended to the depths). The Earth is joined by the full moon in Taurus, and they reflect back the energetic polarity of the sun’s self-expression: true receptivity.
In the bodygraph, both Gates 1 and 2 are in the G-Center, also known as the Identity Center or the Heart Center. All of the G’s 8 Gates represent the Solstices, Equinoxes, and midpoint days between them in the Mandala— also known as the 8 Sabbats of the Pagan Wheel of the Year. This makes the G Center the powerhouse of the body, that unites each of these important astronomical events.
In Scorpio Season, Gate 1 represents Samhain, the witches new year, the last of the 3 harvest festivals before winter sets in. Although we celebrated Samhain with Halloween on October 31, the true midway point between Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice is at 15 degrees Scorpio: Gate 1.
On the other side of the wheel, Gate 2 is correlated with Beltane, Mayday, the Pagan fire festival that marks the beginning of summer and the start of the growing season. Marked by these holidays, we tap into what is likely the most obvious and primal polarity in the entire wheel: the beginning of growth vs. the end of growth. Life vs. Death.
When I first learned that Gate 1, The Creative, was in Scorpio season, it didn’t really make sense. Why would heaven over heaven, the first act of creation, be in the season of death, depth, and the underworld?
But when I think about Gate 2, The Receptive, as the Taurus gate that begins summer and the growing season, it makes so much sense. In Astrology, Taurus is fixed earth, ruled by the bull, a season of sensuality and groundedness, as the spring plants bloom into flowers and the promise of nourishment is on it’s way. The receptive energy of Gate 2 fits Taurus season so well, an open-handed gratitude for the bounty of the earth and the regenerative quality of nature itself. Yin is receiving openly of the world.
Gate 1, the pure yang energy of the heavens is the first non-splenic gate that the sun travels through after the long 8 gates of Spleen Season. In my recent Scorpio Season podcast, my guest Sarah Belpedio and I chatted about this in depths, about how the spark of pure creative self-expression can only come after we touch the deepest and darkest parts of ourselves and our human experience. Sparks in the dark: Gate 1. The expressive willpower to make it through a long, dark winter.
This week, from Wednesday-Sunday, the sun transits through Gate 1 and the earth through Gate 2. On Wednesday the 5th at 6:19am MST, there is a full moon in Taurus, happening just as the moon moves into Gate 2 from Gate 24. This means there will be an extra dose of that receptive earth energy in the cosmos this week—a good change-up from the intense amount of fire and water signs that most of the planets are in right now.

Key Concepts of Yin and Yang, in honor of Gates 1 & 2:
Interdependence: Yin and Yang do not exist independently. Like day and night, they are different yet inseparable.
Constant Motion: Yin and Yang are dynamic; changes are invariably happening to maintain balance. One expands, the other contracts, creating a cycle of change.
Harmony/Balance: Neither force is superior to the other; both are equally important. Excess or deficiency in either can disrupt harmony, leading to chaos or stagnation.
Integrating Gates 1 and 2: Balance creating with receiving
With the Sun in Gate 1 and the Earth crowned by a Full Moon in Gate 2, the sky stages a conversation between creation and placement. Here, the instinct to bring something new into form meets the wisdom that knows where it belongs. In the I Ching, this is Heaven over Heaven facing Earth over Earth.
In Human Design, both gates are in the G (or Ji) Center, the seat of identity and direction, so the 5.5 days ahead might feel like a subtle recalibration of your inner compass. This might feel insanely refreshing, after many weeks of splenic, instinctual, fear-based energy of Libra and early Scorpio seasons. Now that Halloween’s over, and with the sun and earth both in the G center, we will feel a return to our hearts. Gate 1 reaches from the G center up toward the throat, helping us speak our heartfelt truths into the world. Gate 2 reaches from the G Center down to the Sacral, helping us ground our sovereign expression into the yin field of collective truth.
In the Gene Keys, Key 1 moves from Entropy to Freshness to Beauty, and Key 2 moves from Dislocation to Orientation to Unity. The week ahead invites us to move past simple inertia by creating something deep and profoundly honest (Gate 1 is in Scorpio, after all), and also to find coherence and unity by orienting within the larger landscape with Taurean sensuality and care.
Gate 1: The Creative
Gate 1 is The Creative, the first note of the song ringing out from the silence. In Human Design, it sits in the G Center, and it pairs with Gate 8 to complete the Channel of Inspiration. (Note: the 1-8 channel is being lit up for everyone this week, since Uranus is just about to retrograde back into gate 8… get ready for some sudden inspirational downloads!)
Each year when the Sun lights up Gate 1, personal authorship turns on from inside. This week brings the energy of creative potential and authentic self-expression, representing the drive to create, to give form to inspiration, and to manifest ideas that are uniquely personal. This gate is about bringing forth the essence of one’s inner self into the world in a way that is distinct and original.
Located in the G Center, this gate emphasizes the importance of connecting to one’s true identity and allowing that authenticity to flow through creative expression. It calls for the courage to be seen and heard, trusting in the creative force that flows through you without forcing it into rigid structures or expectations.
Gate 1 teaches us to transcend arrogance by aligning with the pure essence of creativity, which is not about ego, but about the flow of inspiration that is meant to be shared with others. It reminds us that the truest form of self-expression is rooted in authenticity and can inspire the world around us.
The I Ching’s Qian speaks about sustained initiative and integrity, a steady willingness to begin again until form becomes true. In the Gene Keys, the shadow of Entropy can feel like a collapse of energy or a private doubt about whether the next move matters, but the gift of Freshness emerges the moment we reengage with our creative craft. At the siddhi level, Beauty comes through as a natural radiation of pure essence, when our self-expression is heartfelt and in alignment with our highest values. Under this Sun, creativity is a current of electricity that helps our hearts speak loud.

Gate 2: The Receptive
Gate 2 is The Receptive, the bowl that holds the flowing river. In Human Design, it also anchors in the G Center, joining with Gate 14 for the Channel of the Beat, where direction and resources meet.
Gate 2 embodies the energy of openness, guidance, and receiving. It represents the potential to align with the flow of life by being receptive to what is needed or required, instead of forcing or controlling outcomes.
With both the Earth and the Full Moon here, receptivity is luminous and precise, It is not passive acceptance, but open allowance for all that is, the felt sense that allows the next step to click into place without strain. The moon is exalted in the sign of Taurus, and it feels extra-exalted in Gate 2, with it’s receptive, open, and ever-changing nature.
Also located in the G Center, this gate emphasizes the importance of listening deeply to the inner guidance and intuition that directs us, helping us navigate life’s path with clarity and trust. It invites us to be open to the flow of life and allow things to unfold naturally, recognizing the power in surrender and acceptance.
Gate 2 teaches us to transcend rejection by embracing receptivity and allowing ourselves to be guided in alignment with the highest good. It reminds us that unity is found when we accept life as it is, recognizing our interconnectedness with all things.
The I Ching’s Kun teaches the strength of yielding and allowing, the kind of receptivity that helps a seed grow by planting it in the right field and in the right season.
In the Gene Keys, 2 carries the shadow of Dislocation, a scattered feeling that tries to control outcomes from the head. This evolves to the gift of Orientation, the medicine that arrives when you recognize that everything is in it’s right place. The siddhi of Unity is the sensation that life is gathering around what is correct for you.
Interesting Note: Gate 2 is said to be the home of the magnetic monopole in human design, which is the element that unites our Personality and the Design chart influences into our full experience of being a human.
Here’s a Gate 2-coded song for your full moon pleasure:
Integrating Gate 1 and 2
Together, Gates 1 & 2 describe a complete creative ecology, the basis of the entire 64 hexagrams of the I’Ching.
This week, the Sun in Gate 1 asks you to create from your true essence, to let originality arise from having been brave enough to recently get in touch the depths of your soul.
Across the sky, the Earth and Full Moon in Gate 2 ask you to listen for where that innate creation naturally belongs within the greater collective ecosystem.
From the I Ching’s POV, 1 initiates and 2 orients, and in doing so, each strengthens the other. Gate 1 broadcasts individual identity while Gate 2 welcomes it with open arms within the greater landscape.
If you give yourself to that rhythm, first by making the thing because it is truer to make it than to hold it back, and then by orienting it where the body signals a clear yes, the week unfolds with less friction and more coherence. What you put out energetically not only exists, but also grounds into the greater collective yin field of the earth.
THIS WEEK’S ASSIGNMENT (Nov 5-10):
Gate 1 — Create with a Primordial Spark
This week, make something that feels unmistakably you. Keep it small and honest. Try ten to twenty minutes in one sitting, with no polishing while you create. Let your hand move faster than your mind, and notice where freshness returns the moment you engage with your creative process. Beauty is a side effect of truth, not perfection. Protect your inner spark by limiting external input while you work. Silence your phone and take one breath at a time.
—AND ALSO—
Gate 2 — Allow Yourself to Receive
Pause and listen for where your creation belongs. Give yourself ten quiet minutes to practice yin receiving. Sit with one hand on your chest and one on your belly, breathe slowly and deeply, and name three forms of support already here. When kindness appears, say “thank you” without deflecting. Make one simple ask and allow the answer; offer one aligned no to protect your energy; finish by sipping water slowly and noticing where your body says yes.
Reflection Questions
What feels most alive in me to create right now?
How can I cultivate a deeper receptivity to the flow of life?
How can I align myself more fully with the natural flow of life, trusting that I am being guided?
What inputs or habits drain my freshness, and what simple boundary would protect my inner spark?
Where am I still trying to control outcomes with my mind, and what would unity look like if I let the next step reveal itself?
Is Gate 1 or 2 defined in your chart? Let me know how it shows up for you in the comments!
The next gate the Sun will enter (on Monday, November 10) is Gate 43: The Gate of Insight, aka The Rebel. It is across the wheel from the Earth in Gate 23: The Gate of Assimilation. Together they create the channel colloquially known as “Genius to Freak” in the bodygraph, and also form the axis of breakthrough and distillation. Next week, we’re asked to trust the lightning strike of knowing (43) and then translate it into clear, simple language that others can receive (23).
